Ahlsell’s sustainability report with a focus on contributing to the green transition

In 2023, Ahlsell continued to develop its sustainability work in line with the company’s long-term strategy and vision of contributing to a more sustainable society. Ahlsell has joined the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi), made the carbon footprint of its own brand products visible, expanded its sustainable offering and taken more steps towards circular initiatives to accelerate the green development of society.

The new and ambitious climate goals, which have now been submitted for validation to SBTi, clarify Ahlsell’s goal of being a leader in the climate transition. Approval of the targets is expected in spring 2024, but work has already begun to realize them.

- Over 90 percent of our emissions come from purchased products and services. Working towards scientifically validated climate targets is vital to make a difference. We look forward to contributing to strengthening our customers’ competitiveness with the help of sustainable products and services, which also reduce their climate emissions, says Christina Lindbäck, CSO Ahlsell AB.

Further initiatives for a greener transition include investments in tools that publish third-party-approved environmental product declarations and provide customers with facts about Ahlsell’s own brand products’ carbon footprint. Ahlsell has also expanded and started to highlight products that can enable the transition, e.g. charging stations, solar cells and cables for renewable electrification, and various stormwater components to prevent flooding risks. To extend the lifetime of products and materials, an upgraded recycled glycol for cooling and heating plants was launched and new solutions have been tested for the return and reuse of plumbing products.

- Circular business models with smart logistics are an important development area in the future, where we want to become a partner for our customers and their customers as well as for our suppliers. With our well-functioning logistics and broad store network, we can meet the need for returns, upgrades and resale of various products, continues Christina Lindbäck, CSO Ahlsell AB.

For Ahlsell, the work is now continuing to build a forward-looking company with a dedicated organization with the right expertise that together develops the sustainable offering.

- We all have a responsibility and an opportunity to contribute. I am proud that we have decided to make a difference in the green transition. Sustainable supply and value chains will be an obvious requirement for future purchasers, and integrated sustainability work creates resilient, value-creating and successful companies, says Claes Seldeby, CEO of Ahlsell AB.
